Hashish is derived from the cannabis. It's much more potent than regular cannabis and is usually gotten from the flower tops of the plant. It is usually smoked in a pipe or water pipe but in the north of Africa is also eaten(1 ).

According to legend a band of men lead by Hassan-i-Sabbah claimed to use hash to build up there courage to terrorize the Middle East during the eleventh century (2 ).

The band of men was called "hashshashin" in Arabic translated into English it is "assassin." "The Assassin movement," was called by its members at the time as the "new propaganda", in other words a band of Hash smoking killers was a myth (3 ).

Muslims observations of Hash would also discount this movement, as assasins. Ronald Siegel said "floating to heaven in a hashish stupor was bad enough, but laughing riotously about it was unacceptable." Muslims also noted it sapped a person's motivation to work. So it was banned(4 ).
