Description

The growth time for industrial hemp from seed is one hundred days(1). It can reach a height of between 5 to 15 ft.(2 ).

Hemp is relatively free of psychoactive ingredient that recreational cannabis is famous for(3 ).

A Research group gave a conservative estimate in 1990, they projected that one acre would produce two to five tons of hemp(4 ).

The hemp plant comprised of 30% oil by volume, the oil has been used to make high grade Diesel fuel and aircraft engine oil and precision machine oil(5 ).

Oil from the hemp seed for producing paints, varnishes, soaps, cooking oil, lotions, cosmetics creams, and for fuel and heating (6 ).

Hemp pulp is 77% to 85 % cellulose, and using bio-mass derived fuels you can produce fuel oil that has similar properties to no.2 and no.6 fuel oil(7 ). An Acre of hemp can produce around 1,000 gallons of methanol per year (8 ).

Hemp stems are 80% hurds. Hurds are the byproduct that is left when your remove the fiber. These hurds are 77% cellulose that can be used for chemical feed stock for the production of chemicals, plastics and fibers(9 ).

The hemp plant is from 15 to 20 percent fiber, and four percent organic glue called lignin. 78 to 81 percent of hemp as mention before is woody pulp, this pulp is 77 to 85 percent cellulose. In contrast a tree is 20 percent lignin and only 60 percent cellulose, cellulose can be used for making paper(10 ).

Cotton cellulose was used to make the first plastics in the 1880's and named celluloid (11 ). The problem with Cotton is it demands huge amounts of water, pesticides, herbicides and Fertilizers when compared to hemp(12 ).

Hemp could be used for as many as 25,000 products we use today. It can be used to make things like rope, clothing, diapers, car parts, shampoo, beer, vitamins and lip balm (13 ).
